Linda Cassells has over 25 years’ experience in book publishing. For eight years Linda was the New Zealand publisher for Oxford University Press, commissioning a wide range of works by New Zealand authors such as Terry Sturm, Vincent O’Sullivan, Dame Fiona Kidman, Nicholas Tarling, Sir Geoffrey Palmer and Mai Chen. She then joined Hodder Moa Beckett (now Hachette) as their managing editor, overseeing the publication of brand and celebrity books such as the Edmonds range and authors Peter Gordon, Allyson Gofton, Colin Meads and Jeff Wilson.
As editor and publisher she has shaped hundreds of books, many of which have won national awards, including The Dictionary of New Zealand English by Harry Orsman, and The New Zealand Wine Atlas by Michael Cooper. Linda set up Calico Publishing in 2003, initially offering publishing services before starting her own list under the Calico imprint. From 2006–2011 Linda served on the Council of the Publishers Association of New Zealand (PANZ). She has also served on the Advisory Committee for the Publishing Programme at Whitireia New Zealand and as a literary advisor for Creative New Zealand.
Originally from Northern Ireland where she grew up, she has a Double Honors Degree in German and French from Trinity College Dublin, and a Doctorate in Linguistics.
